Payout methods

The current PayPal-only payout system presents significant disadvantages for music producers.

PayPal imposes substantial transaction fees on every beat sale.

PayPal mandates currency conversion at its unfavorable exchange rates.

Producers incur a substantial portion of their earnings solely due to fees and currency conversion.

Numerous producers across various Reddit forums and social media platforms express frustration with BeatStars’ PayPal-only payout system. This limitation has led to the abandonment of the platform by numerous talented producers. The widespread dissatisfaction with PayPal’s policies and fees is a recurring theme within producer communities.

To address these concerns, I propose implementing direct bank transfer options, including modern payment services such as Wise or Revolut. This would:

It significantly reduces transaction costs.

Empower producers to select the timing and method of currency conversion.

Facilitate a faster and more transparent payout process.

This change would substantially enhance the experience for music producers utilizing the BeatStars platform, enabling them to retain a greater portion of their earnings. The introduction of alternative payment methods could also entice producers who departed the platform due to PayPal-related issues, ultimately strengthening the BeatStars community and marketplace.

Thanks so much for the detailed and thoughtful feedback on our payout system. You've articulated a pain point that we absolutely hear from producers, and you're right about the impact that PayPal's fees and currency conversion rates have on creator earnings.

Your suggestions around direct bank transfers, Wise, and Revolut are spot on. We're actively working on expanding the payment options available to producers right now. There's no ETA I can share just yet, but expanding beyond PayPal is very much in our near-term plans.

We genuinely want creators to keep more of what they earn, and we know that means giving you real choice in how you receive payouts. We'll have more to share soon.

Thanks again for taking the time to make this case. Feedback like this shapes what we prioritise.
