Hello BeatStars Team,
I’d like to share an issue I’ve noticed on the platform and suggest a possible improvement for your consideration.
As a sample creator, I often collaborate with producers who use my samples in their beats and add me as a collaborator, typically on a 50/50 revenue split. However, I’ve observed that some producers use aggressive promotional offers (such as “buy 1 get 7 free” or similar bundles). In these cases, customers can include beats containing my samples as part of the “free” items in the bundle.
As a result, a significant number of beats that include my work are effectively being distributed at no cost, which directly impacts my share of revenue. While I understand and support promotional strategies, this situation can feel unfair from the perspective of sample creators who rely on proportional revenue splits.
I wanted to ask whether there might be a way to address this within the platform. For example, potential solutions could include:
* Allowing collaborators to opt out of bundle promotions for specific tracks
* Ensuring a minimum payout for all collaborators, even in discounted or free bundle scenarios
* Giving collaborators more control over how their shared works are included in promotions
I’m sharing this as a suggestion for consideration, as it seems like a meaningful issue that could affect many creators in the community.
Thank you!
Hi there,
Thanks for sharing this, and for the clarity you brought to the issue. The tension you're describing is real, and it's something we've been thinking about for some time now.
A quick note for the short term: the collaborator who uploads a track can already exclude specific tracks from BOGO deals. So if there are tracks featuring your samples that you'd prefer to keep out of bundle promos, the most direct route today is to reach out to those collaborators and ask them to apply that exclusion on their end.
Longer term, we hear the broader point. Collaborators with a revenue stake in a track currently have no direct say in how that track is used in promotions, and that's a gap worth addressing. We're actively looking at solutions in this space as part of our ongoing work on collaboration and monetisation. No specific timeline to share yet, but it's on our radar.
Thanks again for raising it.
Best,
The BeatStars Team
