Hi Beatstars Team,
I would like to send my feedback about BeatStars as a platform — not to complain, but because I truly believe it could become so much better than it currently is.Over time, I’ve noticed a few things that make it difficult for genuine producers to grow, and I think they deserve attention:
1. Abusive promotions and catalog flooding
Some sellers now upload thousands of beats and constantly run “Buy 1 Get 5 Free” or even “10 Free Beats” campaigns.
That’s not healthy competition — it’s market flooding. When one person can upload two thousand beats and offer them almost for free, everyone else disappears.
It turns the marketplace into a warehouse instead of a space for discovery. And ironically, it also hurts BeatStars itself: if smaller producers never sell anything, they cancel their memberships.
But if everyone could make even a few sales, most would stay for years. That’s how sustainability
works — not through endless volume, but through shared success.
2. Misleading use of artist names and images
There’s another major issue: people using the names or even photos of famous artists on their beat covers.
That’s not just misleading for buyers — it’s a legal risk.
If an artist or label notices someone selling “Drake Type Beat” with Drake’s photo on it, they’re not going to chase the seller; they’ll go straight for BeatStars.
It’s unfair for those of us who respect the rules and build our own brand identity.
3. The loss of individuality
BeatStars was supposed to be a platform that empowers creators. But right now, it feels more like a race to upload as much as possible and sound like whoever is trending.
The algorithm rewards quantity, not creativity.
Real producers — the ones who care about sound, quality, and identity — get buried under industrial catalogs that all look and sound the same
.4. What could actually change things
I don’t expect miracles, but a few smart adjustments could transform the ecosystem:
– Limit the number of active promotions per seller (and the size of “free” bundles).
– Enforce stricter rules about using celebrity images and names.
– Introduce simple discovery tools: new uploads, emerging producers, or curated picks based on quality, not only traffic.
– Offer visibility rotation, so fresh producers can be discovered too.I’m saying this respectfully — because I actually care about the platform.
BeatStars has the reach and the potential to be the place for authentic, talented producers. But to get there, it needs to protect the people who are trying to do things right. Thanks for reading this, Rehana. I really hope it reaches the right people on your team.
Best,
Mikael
